On Sunday December 2nd we begin another journey into the Advent season. This Sunday in the group there will only be one celebration which will be in the Parish Eucharist at 11:00am followed by coffee in SS Peter & Paul in Kirton.

Advent is a season of expectation and preparation, as the Church prepares to celebrate the coming (adventus) of Christ in his incarnation, and also looks ahead to his final advent as judge at the end of time. The readings and liturgies not only direct us towards Christ’s birth, they also challenge the modern reluctance to confront the theme of divine judgement: Every eye shall now behold him robed in dreadful majesty. (Charles Wesley)

This Sunday – November 25th we celebrate the Feast of Christ Our Universal King. Our Parish Eucharist at All saints Fosdyke is sung at 9-30am and at 11:00am in Kirton. This will be a Solemn Eucharist with Incense.

At 1-30pm in Algarkirk Village Hall FR Paul will be leading a Messy Church event on the theme of Jesus as out King. Crowns and hearts is our theme!

The question that we should ask ourselves today is simple: Is Christ the King of my life? If yes, how do I stand vis-à-vis his standard of living out his Kingship? How do I feel about my obligation to the least in our society? What am I doing to help meet the needs of the hungry and thirsty, the foreigner, those who are ill or who are in prison? Or am I among those who out of selfish interests frustrate all attempts to ensure that the needs of these very important personalities in Jesus’ own Party are met? To the extent that we are able to ask and seek genuine answers to these questions, to that extent do we acknowledge Christ as the King! Jesus is indeed the King of kings and Lord of lords, but only because of his great love of us. And we can only call him our King and our Lord, if we are ready to follow after his ways. That is what makes us Christian. To be Christian means to have Jesus as our King. To have Jesus as King means to live according to the principles of his Kingship and Lordship.
